Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Over 200,000 migrants, many from the Philippines and Indonesia, work as domestic servants in Hong Kong in order to provide for their families back home. Unfortunately, discrimination, rape, physical abuse, and contract violations are common occurrences to these workers. Uninformed or afraid to speak up for their legal and social rights, many abused and underpaid migrants are unable to seek legal recourse against their employers.
Activities
Bethune House provides counseling and legal assistance to migrants who have been mistreated or harassed at work and a temporary shelter for migrants who must wait for their legal cases to be processed.
