| A 24-year-old man has been jailed 20 months after pleading guilty to two charges related to counterfeit banknotes at the District Court. On January 24, the man paid $22 with a RMB$100 banknote for a taxi trip from Hung Hom to To Kwa Wan. Having found the banknote to be of inferior quality, the driver reported the case to Police and the man was arrested. When the driver took over the taxi from the night shift driver two days later, he found 20 RMB$100 banknotes under the rear passenger seat. These notes were surrendered to Police, and all were confirmed to be counterfeit. The man claimed he found the fake banknotes in the taxi and denied knowing they were counterfeit. He was charged on January 27 and pleaded guilty yesterday.
